Abstract

352,454. Feeding yarns during winding and other operations. JUNKERS, A. H., Rheydt, Rhineland, Germany. March 27, 1930, No. 9818. [Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii).] In apparatus for winding yarns or threads and for the formation of a stock or supply of yarn in which the thread runs in at one end and can be drawn off axially from the running-off end independently of the winding device, the thread is wound on to one or a number of rotating cores containing a device for axially displacing the yarn towards the running-off position. The thread is guided from a bobbin 5, Fig. 1, by a slotted drum 4 on to a supply device 3 and is wound more slowly therefrom on to a reel 2 so that there is always a reserve of yarn on the device 3. The device 3 comprises two sets of four rollers 8, Fig. 2, supported at the upper and lower ends of a carrier 7 rotatable on the spindle 3a, each pair of rollers supporting an endless belt 10 on which the thread is wound and the rollers 8 of both sets or of the lower set being coupled by toothed wheels 9. At each revolution of the spindle 3a a driving star 12 on the axle of one of the lower rollers engages a lever 13 to displace the belts 10 upwards, i.e. to the running-off position. In a modification, the supply may be wound on a spool 14 formed with a conical end 14a, Fig. 4, the yarn being wound by the action of a slotted drum 16 and guide roller 15, an annular conical member 17 being displaced along the spool as the supply is wound. Alternatively a supply having thread lengths accessible for treatment may be wound on two drums 18, 19, Fig. 5, the axes of which are in different vertical planes. In another form the supply device comprises two parallel drums or cores supported on shafts 22, 23, Fig. 6, the thread being wound round both drums. Each core consists of belts 24 supported on rollers 25 carried by arms from the shafts 22, 23. The belts 24 are displaced to the left, Fig. 6, by the engagement of toothed wheels 26 on one set of rollers 25, with a spiral guide member 27. The free portion of the threads may be brushed or otherwise treated or dried by air currents during winding. The thread is drawn off by a guide arm 29 having a friction slip mounting on the shaft 30 and driven through the pulley 30a, and a guard-plate 28 having a guiding edge is provided to protect any free windings. In a further modification, a storage supply 45, 46 is inserted as a separate member behind a treating device as described in Specification 319,793, [Class 120 (iii), Yarns &c.], and consisting of skeleton drums 36, 37 the axle of the drum 36 being parallel to the longitudinal direction of the machine while the drum 37 is mounted obliquely in a horizontal plane. The casing 31 is formed with a partition 33 to accommodate a heater 34 and is provided with a fan 35. The thread passes from a spool 39 round two small drums 40, 41, the lower of which is braked at 43 to serve as a tensioning device, over a guide roller 42 to the drums 36, 37 and thence to the device 45, 46. An inclined plane 67 counterweighted at 48 is arranged so that an increase in the number of windings depresses the lever to close a circuit 50 whereby the belt is displaced and the winding action retarded. While passing through the machine the threads are treated by fixed brushes 55, 56, 57, rotary brushes 52 and a comb 54 carrying a brush 54a.
