Abstract
Water or other liquid employed in the cooling system of an internal-combustion engine, to which certain rust-preventing chemicals have been added, is further treated to produce an insoluble protective coating on brass or copper by adding compounds known as collecting agents in ore flotation, which contain divalent sulphur and trivalent nitrogen or both. These compounds comprise thiazoles, xanthates, thioureas, mercaptans, thiocarbamates, thiocyanogens, thioamides, azo and diazo compounds, amines, hydrazines, aminoazo compounds, and the like.
