Abstract

351,413. Supply meters. BUTLER, ST. J. D. ARCEDECKNE-, 2, Whinny Hill, Catterick Camp, Yorkshire. March 15, 1930, No. 8410. [Class 37.] Comprises apparatus , for indicating average values, e.g. average speed, average rate of flow of fluids, average current flowing in a circuit, average number of telephone calls made per unit of time, &c. An average speed indicator comprises a suitably graduated ammeter A, in series therewith distance-adjusted potentiometer resistances E, D, and also in series therewith resistances H, J, K, which are tapped proportionately to time, the reading of the ammeter thus being a measure of the average speed. The resistances E, D are in drum form driven from the drive shaft O of the speedometer P, and the resistances H, J, K are of drum form and driven by the clock M. The three switches S, B, T operate simultaneously ; in the right-hand position the ammeter A is connected to the shunt C, a resistance R equal to the resistance of the ammeter being introduced into the circuit, and to allow for variation in voltage of the battery F, the adjustable resistance G is altered until the ammeter indicates a predetermined value ; in the centre position the ammeter A is short-circuited bv the link c and the battery F is disconnected ; and in the left-hand position the circuit is arranged for indicating average speed on the ammeter A. Other average values can be indicated on the ammeter A by replacing the clock M and speedometer P by appropriate metering instruments.
