351,277. Gravity-separation apparatus; electrolysis. COOPER, G., The Rowans, Holland-on-Sea, Essex. July 16, 1930, No. 21584. [Class 46.] A device for removing sludge or small foreign particles from the bottom of an electroplating vat or other vessel comprises a container a into the bottom of which projects a tube b curved to one side. A vertical tube d provided at the top with a strengthening ring f and a stopper g is screwed or otherwise fitted to the top of the container a. The device is inserted in the bath with the mouth c of the tube b at the bottom and the stopper g in place. The stopper g is then removed and the sludge flows up into the container. The stopper is then replaced and the device removed and emptied by inversion, the tube d being removed, if necessary. The opening c is preferably inclined to prevent the tube from adhering to the bottom by suction and may be provided with a rubber cap c<1>. The device may be made of vulcanite or of metal covered with enamel.
