Abstract

351,194. Crown - corking machines. FLOWER, A. L., Union Place, Marshall Street, Leeds. May 19, 1930, No. 15365. [Class 125 (ii).] Relates to crowning-heads for crown-corking machines of the type comprising a number of resilient fingers which are constrained to move radially in the action of securing a cork. According to the invention the crowning throat is of hollow cylindrical form, with a number of slits 2 extending partly along the cylinder and forming fingers which are rigidly connected at their upper ends. The cylinder 1 is flared externally at the mouth 7 and the slits are angularly arranged at their lower ends. An outer sleeve co-operates with the part 7 in pressing the fingers against the flange of a .cork, when the head is moved relatively to the sleeve. A spring-pressed plunger may be arranged inside the crowning throat.
