[Classes 103 (vi) and 108 (ii).] The bodies are supported on the underframes by rolling members adapted to allow lateral or other movements and transmitting the load through soft elastic surfaces, either the rolling members or the paths being elastic. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, elastic rolling members 22, 29 of solid rubber allow lateral movement of the body which may be limited by raised abutment surfaces at the ends of the paths; centralizing springs 27 are provided. The rolling paths may be so arranged that the body is continually raised as it leaves the mid position, thus providing a return force. Soft elastic rollers may be provided with fabric or wire reinforcement. The rollers and their supporting surfaces may be provided with intermeshing projections and recesses as shown in Fig. 3 to avoid slip. Rollers 45 may be provided as shown in Fig. 18 with deep grooves 46 which allow elastic yield in directions at right-angles to the rolling movement. Such rollers may be used as shown in plan in Fig. 16, in which a two-wheeled truck is maintained parallel to the body of the vehicle by links 44, but is allowed some relative lateral movement. Hollow flexible rolling members, Fig. 7, subjected to internal pressure may be used and a number of such rolling members may be interconnected by flexible pipes to equalize the pressure or may be permanently connected to a compressed air container. Several arrangements of bogies and pony-trucks are illustrated spherical or conical rollers being employed. Fig. 14 shows an arrangement employing spherical rollers 40 with seats 47 shaped to allow the necessary freedom of movement.
