Abstract
350,264. Weighing-apparatus fitted to conveyers. BROWN, S. C., 40, Gloucester Road, North Harrow, Middlesex. June 26, 1930, No. 19432. [Class 143.] An automatic weighing and weight totalizing apparatus applied to a travelling conveyer, such for example as that described in Specification 9339/95, [Class 143, Weighing-apparatus], is provided with a hand-operated poise or poises traversing calibrated graduations on a steelyard for testing the weighing accuracy of the loaded conveyer when stationary, means for rotating by hand the usual cam-operated weight-totalizing mechanism without the need for disconnecting its normal driving connection with the conveyer, means for temporarily securing the automatic weighing mechanism in a position corresponding to the applied load to permit the weight of the load to be added to the totalizing counter after the removal of the load, means for combining with the poise-loaded steelyard an automatic minor increment resistant either fixed or removable, to weigh and indicate automatically upon a graduated chart the weight fluctuations of the material in transit per weighing cycle, and means for weighing automatically the load in transit and indicating such weight upon a chart graduated in terms of tonnage rate per hour of material carried. As shown in Fig. 1, the conveyer 1 passes over the weigh table 4 supported in usual manner by levers 6, 6a, connected to the automatic balance lever 9 with which the measuring quadrant 11 co-operates under cam action in usual manner. According to the invention a steelyard 15 with poises 15a, 15b is also connected to the lever system, by means of a whippletree lever 14 and rod 13. The free end of the steelyard is confined by limit stops and a catch is provided to lock the steelyard out of action. When the conveyer is stationary the load on the weigh table mav be ascertained by adjusting the poises 15a, 15b. The amount of this load should be accurately transferred by the measuring quadrant 11 to the totalizing counter 12 and to enable this to be tested with the conveyer stationary and without disconnection of the driving mechanism, a handoperated worm and a loose conveyer-driven sprocket wheel are combined on the cam shaft controlling the measuring quadrant so that the cam shaft may be rotated several times by hand to give a corresponding multiple indication on the totalizing counter. If it is preferred to make the test with the conveyer running the balance lever 9 is secured in its displaced position by means of a vice 24 applicable to one of the draw rods 7, 8. The steelyard 15 may be rendered automatic in action by the addition thereto of a pendulum weight 30 corresponding to the range of the minor poise 15b, a graduated scale 28 of weights being provided for co-operation therewith. In a modification a second pendulum weight and a second graduated chart 31 corresponding to the range of the major poise 15a are employed and the two charts are graduated to indicate tonnage rate per hour. In a further modification; Fig. 2, the steelyard 15 is dispensed with and the sliding poises 15a, 15b are placed on the balance lever 9. The vice 24 is applied to the rod 8 and an adjustable zero indicator 35 is provided.
