Abstract
350,044. Typewriters &c. TELETYPE CORPORATION, 1400, Wrightwood Avenue, Chicago, U.S.A. March 11, 1930, No. 7942. Convention date, March 20, 1929. [Class 100 (iv).] Relay type-wheel machines; case-shift mechanism. -In a type-printing telegraph receiver levers 57, operated in accordance with the received signals, move selector discs 85 clockwise or anticlockwise to align a set of notches in their edges 88. A pin 89 is pressed into the aligned set of notches by spring bands 93, and stops an arm 94 on a shaft 97 rotated from the motor M to position the desired character on the type-wheel 116. The arm is provided with a latch to prevent rebound (Figs. 9 and 10, not shown). A sixth lever 57, controlled by a sixth selector lever, rocks a member 120 through a lever 1251 to bring a leaf spring 122 uppermost to print a numeral or a leaf spring 121 to print a letter. When the combination of selecting levers 46 has been set up, a cam engages its follower 75, Fig. 3, to move a trip bail 74 from a stop-lug 73. The friction clutch 63, Figs. 1 and 2, then begins to drive the cam 62, and after an initial movement a cam follower 81 rides over the shoulder of a cam 80 to permit a compression spring 82 to engage toothed members 78, 79 of a grab clutch, which takes up the drive. The cam 62 controls the printing action as described above. Hammer-impression arrangements.-The cam 62 rocks, through a follower 127, a printing bail 124, which raises the member 120 to press a tape 118 against the type-wheel 116, Fig. 3. Line-spacing mechanism.-The tape is fed by a wheel 128 bearing on a pressure wheel 128<1>. The wheel is attached to a ratchet wheel 128, Fig. 1, driven by a spring-pressed pawl 130 which is withdrawn, after the printing of each character, by a feed bail 132 operated by a cam follower on the outer edge of the cam 62.
