Abstract
349,493. Coin-freed apparatus. CALDWELL, T. F., 38, Holyhead Road, Handsworth, Birmingham. Feb. 17, 1930, No. 5328. [Class 27.] Testing coins.-In a device, shown applied to apparatus described in Specification 332,585, [Class 27, Coin-freed apparatus &c.], a coin rolls along a ledge 5 which is mounted on a plate 1, pivoted on a shaft 3, and projects through a slot 6 in a wall 8 against which the coin rests. The wall is curved at 9 so as to direct coins to a thickness testing device. This device comprises a fixed ledge 13 and a plate 2, integral with the plate 1 and held from the ledge 13 against the action of a spring 7 by a screw 28. Thin coins fall between the ledge 13 and the plate 2 into a shoot 14 leading to a rejectedcoins shoot 20. Correct coins roll off the ledge 13 into a shoot 15 leading to the selector mechanism described in the Specification referred to above. Large coins are either jammed under a block 18 or between the ledges 13, 17. The delivery mechanism after a partial operation moves, by an arm 19, the plate 1, 2, and discharges any coins, cardboard &c. that have been retained, the wall 8 acting as a stripper to cause the retained coins &c. to fall off the ledge 5 as this is retracted through the slot 6. Coin-slit closing devices.-A half-moon shaped member 22, pivoted on the bracket 4, with its lower end in contact with the ledge 5, is rotated by the ledge when this is drawn through the slot 6 so that its upper face moves through a slot 23 in the wall 8 into a position in front of the coin slot. When the last packet of merchandise is delivered, the ledge plate 5 is held in its retracted position.
