Abstract

347,413. Ball or tube grinding or crushing mills. STONE, E. G., Crown Street, Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. March 18, 1930, No. 8703. [Class 59.] In a ball mill comprising a framing and a series of crushing cylinders rotatably mounted on the framing and radially arranged round a common supporting shaft, each cylinder is provided with an automatically operated valve allowing only a predetermined quantity of material to be treated to be passed into the cylinder at each operation of the valve, and means permitting graded discharge of treated material from the cylinders. The cylinders 5 are mounted in a frame 4 rotatable on a spindle 3 by an annular toothed ring 9. An annular hopper 11, provided with an opening 12 surrounds the cylinders 5 and receives material from a shoot 13. The end of each cylinder is provided with a closure member 15 and scoop 16 operated by a bell crank 17 which maintains the member 15 closed by a spring 19. A fixed cam 18 is attached to the mill framework 1 and operates each crank 17 in turn as the cylinders pass through the lowermost position to open the member 5 and inject a charge into the cylinder by the scoop 16. The opposite end of each cylinder is provided with an opening 21 through which the ground material is discharged on to a screen 22 attached to the cylinder. The screens rotate in an annular partitioned chamber, the partition being provided with an annular ring 25 which adjoins apertures 24 in the end of the screens whereby the fines are collected in chamber 23 and the coarse material is discharged through the ring 25 to the chamber 26. The framework 1 may be mounted on wheels 27, Fig. 6, which run on rails in an external frame 30, 31, the frame 1 being reciprocated by a cam 29 and spring 32.
