[Class 56.] A machine for cutting-out shapes from sheet glass comprises a member which can be rotated about a vertical axis and moved radially by a fixed cam or templet, a diamond or wheel cutter supported by the member, and an arm which engages a second fixed cam and keeps the cutter facing in the direction of the cut. The device comprises a frame 1, Fig. 1, in which a vertical shaft 2 is journalled, a counterweighted lever 4 for keeping the shaft raised when out of use, and a handle 3 for rotating the shaft and for forcing it downwards when a cut is to be made. A slotted arm 12 is secured to and projects radially from the lower end of the shaft 2, and a member 9 slides in the slot in the arm and is forced inwards by a spring so that it is always in contact with a fixed cam or templet 10. The diamond 6 is held in a tube 7 which is free to turn within an arm 8 secured to the member 9. The tube 7 has a U-shaped arm 17, Fig. 2, and a roller 18 on this arm is kept in contact with a second fixed cam 11, by a spring. In use, a glass sheet is placed on the base 5 of the machine and the handle 3 is pressed downwards and rotated. The cutter is moved by the member 9 and scores on the glass an outline determined by the cam 10. The cam 11 turns the tube 7 on its axis and its contour is so chosen that the cutter always faces in the direction of the cut. If desired, the cams 10, 11 may be replaced by grooved plates thus dispensing with the springs required to keep the parts 9, 18 in contact with the cams.
