Abstract
<PICT:0345864/III/1> In a process for the production of liquid fuels by low temperature distillation or partial gasification of carbonaceous materials, and comprising an enrichment with hydrogen in the presence of catalysts as described in Specification 267,512, [Class 1 (i), Chemical processes &c.], a second operation of catalytic hydrogenation is effected. To the products to be treated are added the light oils derived from distillation of the condensate of the above process and the light oils which are obtained from treatment in a cracking plant of the pitches and medium oil obtained in this distillation. A, B, C represent respectively the retort dephlegmator and hydrogenating apparatus of Specification 267,512. The condensate from condenser I collects in P and the gaseous products pass through heater J to apparatus L. Additional hydrogen is added to the mixture and hydrogenation effected herein at 180 DEG -200 DEG C. After cooling in N, the liquids separate over carbon in K, easily condensable products passing to p O. Remaining gas traverses a washer R to a gasometer M. The condensate in P separates into water in P, and oil in P2. The latter after washing with soda in P3 is distilled in P4. The light oils after vaporization in P5 join the main gas stream in conduit 1. Pitches are removed by conduit P6 and medium oils by P7 to the cracking plant O. Light oils from the latter also pass to the main stream.
