Abstract
345,694. Piercing wood. PFISTER, R., 315, East 77th Street, New York, U.S.A. Jan. 6, 1930, No. 528. [Class 145 (i).] A tool for impregnating timber or growing trees with preservative liquid comprises a shank with a blade extending therefrom and having longitudinal grooves for the passage of the liquid after the tool is driven into the wood. The tool comprises a solid shank 16, Figs. 1 and 2, integral with a blade 17, preferably of flattened cross section with slightly convex sides. The narrow edges 19 of the blade may converge towards the entering end, and both edges are provided with grooves 20, preferably increasing in depth from the point to the shank, into which they extend for a part of its length. The point of the too] is preferably formed with an extended and convexly curved cutting edge 21. A collar 22, Fig. 1, is fitted to the shank 16, and provided with one or more internal passages 23 in communication with the ends of the grooves 20. Hose pipes 25 are attached to the collar to supply the liquid under pressure to the passages 23. For use upon seasoned wood, the grooves may extend along the shank to the base of the blade only. The tool may be forced into the wood by means of a lever, screw or otherwise.
