Abstract

Strings, shavings, &c. of wood, metal or other material are coated with a solution of a binder, drained of excess solution and moulded under pressure. The shavings &c. are of a sufficiently springy character to remain in a more or less separated, self-supporting or non-matting state prior to moulding. As examples are straw, rhea fibre, rope waste, excelsior, and steel wool. Examples of binders are natural or artificial resin, asphalt, pitch, gum and blood albumen, which may be in solution in a volatile organic solvent or in water. Articles of furniture may be constructed of the composition.
