Abstract

345,258. Tension-equalizing device for yarns in knitting and like operations. BREWER, F., 45, Kensington Road, Oldham. Dec. 14, 1929, No. 38346. [Class 74 (ii).] A device for equalizing the tension in three yarns comprises three equally spaced guides 11 mounted on a member 8 which is supported by a ball 9 so that it is capable of a rocking or tilting movement in any direction. The device is suspended by a flexible resilient member 10 and can be duplicated as shown in Fig. 5, to deal with greater numbers of yarns, e.g. nine yarns can be guided in three such devices suspended from the ends of three equally spaced radial arms, the whole being resiliently supported at its centre. The tensions of a number of yarns not divisible by three can be equalized by utilizing one or more devices according to the invention together with one or more devices each adapted to equalize the tension in a pair of yarns, the devices being supported from arms whose lengths are in inverse ratio to the number of yarns passing through the devices.
