Abstract

344,847. Kinematograph projection apparatus. VISIONTONE TALKING PICTURES, Ltd., St. Lawrence House, Trump Street, King Street, London. Dec. 5, 1929, No. 37384. Convention date, Dec. 6, 1928. [Class 97 (i).] In combined kinematograph and sound-reproducing apparatus of the kind in which the sound and projector mechanisms are driven by a single motor 8, the film take-up spool 136 is connected to the transmission gear through a slipping clutch, such as a belt 140, and the film feed spool 98 is coupled to the transmission through a clutch 114 which, when engaged, causes the feed spool to rotate in the reverse direction for rewinding the film, the slipping clutch connected with the take-up spool exerting a resistance to keep the film taut. The spools 98, 136, sprockets 92, 94, 96, gate &c., are mounted on a vertical panel 22 connected to a baseplate 14 supporting the gramophone turntable 4 and the transmission gears from the motor 8. The turntable is continuously driven at constant speed from the motor 8 through the belt 47 and shaft 44 and drives the shaft 144 of the take-up spool through the slipping belt 140. The shaft 52 driving the projector mechanism may be connected at will with the shaft 44 by a clutch 54 operated by a lever 72. When rewinding is necessary, a clutch 114 operated by a handle 134 enables a belt 125 to drive the feed spool, and the belt 140 slips to permit of reverse motion of the take-up spool 136. The handle 134 is mounted on a sliding rod 130 connected by a ball-and-socket joint to an arm 126 pivoted at 128 and having a spring member engaging the movable clutch element. The lamp house 158 is fixed to the baseplate 14 and carries a reflector 164. The shutter 166 and a cooling fan 168 are mounted on the shaft 52. The apparatus can be readily accommodated in a cabinet with the panel in a front recess closed by a hinged door which may, on closing, operate the handle 134 to declutch the feed spool. ' The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) also describes a cabinet fitted with a mirror and display screen as in Specification 343,068. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
