[Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i).] A wall or floor slab or section of a dome or vaulted support, of the kind which comprises a flat skeleton or grid member of concrete or the like, withor without reinforcement, the cells of the grid being filled with solid or hollow members of a sound -deadening and heat insulating light material, is provided with projections on its edges for interengagement with adjacent slabs. The slab is made by spacing g filler-blocks both longitudinally and laterally and running concrete into the intervening spaces to form the concrete lattice or grid, with or without an integral covering layer of concrete on one or both faces of the slab. Fig. 1 shows a construction in which the chamfered solid or hollow filler-blocks 4, made of straw or fibrous material together with a binder and a filler such as pumice, sand, lava, or the like, are placed on an initial concrete layer 1, 3 with embedded reinforcement 2. Concrete is then run in to form the lattice or grid 5 of I-section and the upper covering layer 8 which is reinforced and provided with two sets of grooves 11 at right-angles on the outer face. Sets of studs 15 for interconnection are formed on the sides and ends of the slabs. The grid structure may be reinforced in both directions, for example by rods 6. The hollow filler-blocks may be made in two parts cemented together in a vertical plane, as shown in Fig. 2, and laid in the slab in this position.
