Abstract

343,481. Drying-appliances for the hair. SUTER, E. F., 30, West 54th Street, New York, U.S.A. Nov. 13, 1929, No. 34639. [Class 131.] In hair-drying apparatus, wherein warm air is passed into and withdrawn from a helmet placed over the head, the helmet 4 comprises inner and outer shells 5, 6 the air being supplied by a blower 11, passing over electric heating elements 14 to the space between the shells and being thence drawn over the hair and through a passage 13 to the inlet of the blower. Chemical or other air-drying means 15 may be provided in the passage 13 or elsewhere in the circuit. The front edge of the shell 6 is turned under as at 10 to deflect the air backwardly and beneath the shell 5. The front portion of the helmet is hinged at 19 and can be lifted up to enable the helmet to be placed in position and to permit inspection of the hair during drying. The shell 5 may be perforated at those parts where the hair is thickest. The whole apparatus is mounted on an adjustable stand 1. In a modification the helmet is made in four sections covered by a twopart outer shell, the sections being hollow and being supplied with air through separate passages each controlled by a butterfly valve. The air is delivered to the hair through slits in the outer ends of the sections. The two front sections are hinged and connected to the upper part of shell.
