Abstract
Products containing up to 15 per cent or more of chemically combined nitrogen are obtained by heating substances of vegetable origin, which are free from nitrogen or of low nitrogen content, with aqueous ammonia under increased temperature and pressure. When treating soluble carbohydrates such as wood sugar, temperatures of from 120 DEG to 300 DEG C. are used; the products obtained at temperatures of 120 DEG to 150 DEG C. under from 2 to 5 atmospheres pressure are suitable for use as a partial substitute for albuminous fodder. For the treatment of insoluble material, temperatures of more than 200 DEG C. are preferred. In the production of a nitrogenous fertilizer, cellulose, lignin, turf, wood, coal, or the like, is heated at from 150 DEG to 340 DEG C. under pressures of from 5 to 150 atmospheres.ALSO:Products containing up to 15 per cent of chemically combined nitrogen are obtained by heating substances of vegetable origin, which are free from nitrogen or of low nitrogen content, with aqueous ammonia under increased temperature and pressure. When soluble carbohydrates, such as wood sugar, are heated with aqueous ammonia at from 120 DEG to 150 DEG C. under pressures of from 2 to 5 atmospheres, the products obtained are suitable as partial substitutes for albuminous fodder. In the production of a nitrogenous fertilizer, cellulose, lignin, turf, wood, coal, or the like, is heated to from 150 DEG to 340 DEG C. under pressures of from 5 to 150 atmospheres.
