[Class 27.] Testing edge of coin for milling.-In coin-selector mechanism for coin-freed machines wherein a member, having a pin-and-slot mounting, in the coin path is capable of pivotal movement when engaged by a milled-edged coin to allow the latter to pass and of a lateral displacement limited by a fixed stop when engaged by a smooth-edged coin to wedge the coin in the coin path, the said member is provided with a straight operating face constituting a portion of one edge of the coin path and is so mounted that in its normal position and throughout its lateral displacement the face is inclined relative to the opposite edge of the coin path to produce the said wedging action to arrest smooth coins. The movable member 6, mounted by the pin-and-slot 4, 5, is of right-angled triangular shape and is formed with an operating face 9 and a projection 7, normally resting against a fixed pin 8. A milled coin, by its milled edge engaging the knife-edge 11, rotates the member 6 about the pin 4 and passes on. A smooth coin fails to rotate the member 6, which is, however, displaced by sliding on the pin 4 along the slot 5 until its side 14 abuts against the pin 8, any pivotal movement being prevented by a fixed pin 12. The smooth coin is thereby wedged between the face 9 and the opposite edge of the coin path until the movable side of the coin shoot is opened to discharge it.
