Abstract

342,356. Percussive tools. BAILLIE, S., Pool, Hayes Colliery, Short Heath, near Wolverhampton. Nov. 2, 1929, No. 33398. [Class 124.] The striker 14 is reciprocated by a rotating block 8 driven by an electromotor 2 and formed with a cam groove 10 engaging the arms of a yoke 11 which carries the striker and slides in guides 4. The tool 7 is retained by springs 20. The yoke may comprise a hollow cylinder partly surrounding the block 8. In a modification particularly suitable for cutting coal the yoke engages the the shank of the drill by means of collars 12b, with or without the interposition of a spring, and the squared end 12a of the shank slides in a socket in the block 8. In a further modification (not shown) suitable for drilling rock the rear end of the shank engages the block at the end of each backward stroke, giving an intermittent rotation. Any suitable form of mounting such as gimbals may be used.
