[Class 89 (iii).] In a hand stapling tool of the pliers type, the ends of the jaws, which house the staple forming and inserting members, are set at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the tool, as shown in Fig. 2. The limb a of the tool, having at its jaw end a clinching anvil a<1>, and the other limb, comprising a handle d and a chamber b, are pivoted at c and held apart by springs f, f<1>. The bent end of the chamber b houses staple formers g<1>, g<2> carried by a slide g, and a driver h<1> carried by a slide h. The slides g, h are operated by levers i, j the tails of which are engaged when the handles d, a are pressed together, by arms d<1>, d<2> extending from the handle d. The arms d<1>, d<2> have cam ends so shaped that the formers are moved before the driver. The staple is shaped over an anvil l, which is carried by a spring l<1> and is pressed back by a pin h<2> on the driver slide h when the latter is operated. An extension b<2> of the chamber b carries the wire reel e, which is retained in slots e<2> in the extension by a pawl e<1>. The wire is fed through a guide tube which is in three parts, o, p, q. The part p slides over the part o and within the part q, and carries pivotally a pawl r which is connected by a rod s to a lever n. The latter is operated from the lever i through a lever m, to cause the tube part p to move towards the reel e as a staple is driven, and to return, carrying the wire with it, as the driver is retracted.
