Abstract

Fluid-applying apparatus.-Apparatus for producing coloured papers having variegated &c. effects consists in providing above the paper stock as it is being made, and while it is still wet, at a <PICT:0341621/IV/1> point or points beyond the slice means for delivering dye in drops on to the stock. The various dyes are contained in receptacles 16, being fed as required to troughs 1, 2, 3 by pipes 17 fitted with regulating valves. Each trough contains a roller 4, 5, 6, rotated preferably by a common belt driven from the breast roll &c., and doctor blades 7, preferably formed by a number of narrow spaced strips, contact with the rollers to drip the dye on to the paper. One or more of the rollers 6, may be rotated in the opposite direction, which is stated to effect spreading of the dye transversely of the motion of the paper. A dandy roll may be provided to produce a marbled effect. A modified dripping-device consists in attaching a length of wick to the doctor blade by means of a piece of wire which encircles the wick in spiral fashion.
