[Class 100 (ii).] Addressing and like machines; platen machines; tripping-arrangements ; impression adjustments ; stencil-printing apparatus.-A printing-machine comprises an impression member mounted on a pivoted carriage oscillated by toggle mechanism to move the impression member towards and away from a printing-device supported by a bed, the toggle being extended, to increase the stroke of the impression member and so to provide an impression, by means of a rotatable eccentric embraced by a strap connected to the toggle. As shown applied to an addressing-machine comprising stencil cards 3 fed along a guideway 2 to printing position above a vertically movable bed 6 and below an inked impression roller 7 mounted on a carriage 11 rocking about a pivot shaft 15, the mechanism for rocking the carriage 11 comprises toggles 32, 33, the former being connected to the carriage by a screw 37, which permits adjustment to vary the printing pressure, and the latter being connected to a strap 38 mounted on an eccentric 22 rotated from a drive shaft 21. An eccentric strap 39 connected to an arm 43 fixed to the toggle 33 embraces an eccentric 40 fixed to a shaft 41 rotated by gears from a sleeve, which is loosely mounted on the shaft 21 and is rotated by selection mechanism whenever a stencil from which an impression is required arrives in printing position, whereby the toggles 32, 33 are extended and the roller 7 is lowered beyond the normal limit of its stroke and is pressed against the stencil. The sleeve also actuates gearing for raising the bed 6. Mutilated gears are employed so that the bed 6 remains at rest during the impression and the eccentric 40 is stationary during the downward stroke of the carriage 11.
