Abstract
340,944. Permanent way. MORTKA, J., 85, 2nd Place, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A. Oct. 3, 1929, No. 29966. [Class 104 (ii).] Inner rail-clamps 17, Fig. 5, are forced against the rails by threaded rods and a turnbuckle. The rails rest on fixed seats 30 having recesses engaged by triangular projections 18 on the clamps 17. The outer rail-flange is engaged by a fixed jaw or by a covering jaw 32 secured to the sleeper by a pin 37. The base of the sleeper is undulated at 28 to engage the ballast. In a modification, Fig. 9, the sleeper is of box-form with an upper slot widened at intervals for the insertion of the clamps 49 which are grooved to engage the sides of the slot. The clamps 49 are separated by rods 57 and turnbuckle 58 locked in adjusted position by a cotterpin. The clamps 49 also engage the outer clamps 64 which rock about pivots 66. The rails seat on channel plates 44 secured to the sleeper.
