Abstract
340,726. Antidazzle screens. KINNEY, J. R., 92, Dunster Road, Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, U.S.A. Nov. 28, 1929, No. 36509. [Class 20 (iii).] In an adjustable antidazzle screen for the use of vehicle drivers, the screen 18 is attached by clips 17 to a rotatable shaft 16, which is supported by arms 13, 13x mounted on the windscreen frame 10 or similar fixed support and has a pulley 22 secured to one end thereof, while a coiled spring 4 attached at one end to the arm 13 and at the other end to the pulley 23 is adapted normally to hold the screen 18 in an horizontal or inoperative position, from which it is moved by a pull on a chain or similar flexible member 25 passing round the pulley 22. For adjusting the tension of the spring 4 one end thereof is adapted to engage one of a series of recesses between projections 23 on the pulley 22. If the screen is tu be employed for a brief time only, the driver merely exerts a pull on the member 25 for the period desired, and on releasing his hold, the spring 4 returns the screen 18 to its normal position ; when a longer screening effcet is needed, a ring 29 on the member is engaged with a hook 26 on the windscreen frame. In order to vary the position of the screen 18 or to adapt it for different types of vehicles the arms 13, 13x are of curved formation and are adjustably clamped by bolts 14 in brackets 12, 12x.
