CESSES, Ltd., 14, Waterloo Place, Pall Mall, London. Oct. 8, 1929, No. 30516. [Class 55 (ii).] An open-bottomed chamber dipping into a liquid seal vessel 15 has a gas inlet 2 and outlet 3 and a number of baffles 4 depending from the root and spaced baffles 5 providing a zig-zag gas path. A spray 6 is associated with each baffle 4 and a spray 7 with each baffle 5 the sprays being respectively supplied through valved pipes 10, 9 with tar, heavy oil, &c. from a pipe 13, a part of such liquid also passing to the vessel 15 and a part through a pipe 23 to an ejector 21 for the purpose of increasing the outflow of liquid from the vessel so as to prevent deposition of solids. This is effected in a separator having weirs or baffles, the liquid then passing into a storage vessel which is drawn on by a pump supplying the sprays. The apparatus may be used for separating solid and other materials in suspension in distillation gases, tar, heavy oil or other liquid being supplied to the sprays.
