Abstract

<PICT:0340370/III/1> Hydrocarbons, distilling.--In plant for the distillation of mineral oils in which the crude oil delivered by a pump 1 is preliminarily heated in coils 2, 8, and then introduced into a still 9 where it is heated in the presence of steam superheated in a coil 12, the coils 2, 8, 12 and the still 9 are all heated by a single furnace 4, the combustion gases from which flow through flues 21, 16, 18, 3. A separator 5 may be supplied to allow separation of water and withdrawal of light vapours to a condenser 7. The vapours evolved pass off through a pipe 20, while the residual oil is discharged continuously through a pipe 19. The amount of heat supplied to the chamber 18 may be controlled by passing the combustion gases through a flue 14 provided with a damper 15. The residue in the retort 9 is stated to act as a compensating mass adapted to regulate the operation of the plant.
