Abstract

340,169. Technidyne Corporation, (Assignees of Jones, L. L.). Feb. 19, 1929, [Convention date]. Magazine gramophones.-At the end of reproduction from a record, the turntable of an automatic gramophone is tilted downwardly to disengage the reproducer and simultaneously to move the latter outwardly. After the record changing operation, the turntable is raised and means are provided to position the reproducer over the blank margin of the record and to move it inwards to engage the sound grooves. The turntable 2 is driven through a shaft 4 by a motor 6 the whole being supported by a horizontal shaft 8 carried in bearings 10. The reproducer arm 16 is pivotally mounted on a shaft 20 which is rotatably supported within a fixed bearing sleeve 22. A support 24 prevents downward movement of the arm 16 at a point slightly lower than its playing position. For the record changing operation, the turntable is tilted to the position 2<1>, Fig. 1, the record being displaced into the magazine. 34 by ejector arms 30, and the next record to be played is moved into position from the storage magazine 36 to be picked up by the centre pin 32 on the upward movement of the turntable. During the downward movement a cam 40 fixed to the shaft 8 is also rotated and through a follower 42 causes the reproducer 14 to swing outwards against the torsion of a spring 44. When the turntable is being raised, the reproducer tends to swing inward but is arrested by a stop 58 carried by the shaft of a roller 50 rotatably mounted on a support 52 which is pivoted at 56. The roller 50 is yieldably urged against the periphery of the record by a spring 54. While the turntable is in the inclined position 2', Fig. 3, a catch 60 on the reproducer engages the stop 58 to position the reproducer at a point just inside the periphery of the record. When the turntable 2 is raised completely into the horizontal position, Fig. 6, the record contacts with the needle of the reproducer 14 to lift the arm 16 off the support 24 and to allow the catch 60 to clear the stop 58, whereupon the reproducer moves inward to the sound grooves. Specifications 338,820 and 338,821 are referred to.
