Abstract
339,119. Neuerburg'sche Verwaltungs-Ges., and Sch³nemann, H. Dec. 12, 1929. Cigarette-making machines.-In a machine for applying tapered mouthpieces to cigarettes, a pair of carriers are arranged to move in unison one beside the other and provided with aligned channels adapted to contain respectively the cigarettes and mouthpieces, and means are provided for pushing the mouthpieces on to the ends of the cigarettes. The mouthpieces, made for example of pressed wood, rolled veneer, or cardboard, are first arranged by a rotary drum A, Fig. 3, with their narrow ends pointing in the same direction, and are delivered to a conveyer belt B which carries them to. a storing-drum C. From this they are delivered to tubular channels in a chain K, which conveys them to a glueing- apparatus F and afterwards brings them into line with channels in a drum H containing the cigarettes. The ends of the cigarettes are first contracted, and then the mouthpieces are pushed thereon and the finished cigarettes delivered on to a conveyer band. The periphery of the drum A is formed by groups of rods 3, Fig. 7, separated by spaces 4, each sufficient to receive one mouthpiece M, surplus mouthpieces being kept back by a rotating brush 15. The mouthpieces in the spaces 4 rest against a fixed shield 22 extending partly round the drum and having its edge 21 inclined to the rods 3 so as to allow the mouthpieces to drop through, one by one, into the conveyer belt B, which comprises a pair of belts 23 spaced so as to grip the mouthpieces with their narrow ends downwards. From the belt B, the mouthpieces are forced by compressed air down a shoot 25, Fig. 3, on to the storing-drum C, the upper face of which is formed with a spiral groove along which the mouthpieces are moved by a rotating brush 30. They are then forced down a shoot D to the chain K, the links of which are jointed by tubular bolts 35, Fig. 14, which constitute the channels for holding the mouthpieces. The chain passes over an upper sprocket 34, in line with which are rotated a set of plungers 46, the heads 49 of which contact with a glueing- wheel, so that glue is applied to the mouthpieces as the plungers are reciprocated by a cam 56. The mouthpieces are then carried by the chain around a lower sprocket 32, Fig. 11, where they come opposite the drum H provided with channels 62 containing the cigarettes. These are first forced by plungers 65, actuated by a cam 71, into spring- rings 73 for contracting their ends, on to which the mouthpieces are pushed by plungers 77 actuated by a cam 82. The plungers 65 are then withdrawn, and the cigarettes returned by the plungers 77 to the channels 62, from which they fall as the drum H rotates.
