Abstract

338,983. Herold Akt.-Ges. March 9, 1929, [Convention date]. Coating processes.-Metal surfaces, particularly of pipes, are given a protective coating by heating the surface to the melting temperature of the fusible intermediate (solid cold, or B) state of an artificial resin, such as a phenol or ureaformaldehyde resin, and applying the resin phase, containing no solvent, to the surface in a pulverulent form. The B-resin may be applied in the form of dust, as a suspension in a non- solvent liquid e.g. water or benzol, or rubbed on in the form of a briquette. The coated surface may be treated, during hardening, with a solvent or solvent vapour. Fillers may be applied simultaneously but separately, as by simultaneous spraying; they may also be incorporated in the briquettes. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the treatment of any heated or unheated surface, with an artificial resin in the B-state. The resin may be applied in molten condition. This subject-matter does not appear in the Sepcification as accepted.
