Shades and shade holders. - An electric light lamp shade comprises a number of glass or other transparent or translucent panels adapted to engage at their lower ends with a base member and provided towards their upper ends with means for detachably engaging with co-operating means formed or provided on an upper frame member. The panels may be of any desired colour and may be flat or curved, and the shade may be circular, polygonal, or star-shaped in plan. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the lower ends of the panels 14 rest behind an upstanding portion 13 of a traylike base member 12 which is secured by means of a nut 12<1> to the lower end of a stay 11 depending down from an upper frame member which comprises a hub 7 and radiating arms 8. Each panel 14 carries a pin 15 provided with an external manipulating knob 16 and an internal depending hook 17 adapted to rest in a recess 9 formed in the arms 8 and to project downwardly through apertures 10 in these recesses. Washers, sleeves, or compression springs may be arranged between the panels 14 and the pins 15, and the knobs 16, the nut 12<1>, and the upstanding portion 13 may all be of an ornamental nature. Spring-like clips or other means may replace the hooked pins for holding the panels in position. Gaps between adjacent panels may be closed by narrow strips arranged behind the panels and either resting in position or secured by means similar to those employed for the panels. The upper frame member may be formed as a metal casting, or by assembling together a number of parts, or the upper frame member, the base member, and its support may be formed from wire or the like. The upper frame member may be furnished with sockets to receive electric lamp bulbs, and the base member may be in the form of a horizontal frame fitted with panels. When radiating arms 8 are employed they may be provided with rings to engage chains, rods, or other suspension means, or the shade may be suspended by a central tubular or other rod. Alternatively, the shade may be directly suspended from a ceiling or a wall. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the upper frame member 21, the lamp holder 23, and the base member 24 are all carried by a plate 22 adapted to be secured to a wall. The member 21 is formed with apertures 28 to receive the hooks 17 and with upstanding portions 26 having slots 27 to receive the pins 15.
