Abstract

337,924. Armstrong Cork Co., (Assignees of McCarthy, J. C.). Nov. 21, 1928, [Convention date]. Drawings to Specification. Printing in several colours. - Hard-surfaced covering-material, such as linoleum, felt base coverings, or oil cloth, is provided with an allover pattern over the whole or part of which a contrasting pattern is superimposed. The material may be provided with a preliminary coating, preferably a flat colour, which may be in the form of a pattern, over which is printed, preferably with an aluminium or bronze paint, an allover pattern consisting of fine lines or dots similar to a Benday tint so as to simulate a woven fabric. A pattern is next applied over part of the surface by printing or by air brushing using a thick oil paint or lacquer paint which is opaque and stands out in relief : a background, in oil paint, may also be applied. The whole surface is finally varnished, and, as more varnish settles in the hollows, the line &c. pattern is provided with a thick protective layer.
