Abstract

337,247. Siemens -Retniger - Veifa Ges. f³r Medizinische Technik. Jan. 4, 1929, [Convention date]. R÷ntgen-ray apparatus. - In apparatus for generating R÷ntgen rays having its H.T. parts encased, the casing includes an earthed metal pillar which contains the H.T. source, and a tube which projects horizontally from, and is vertically adjustable on, the pillar, and contains the ray-tube at its free end. A similar apparatus comprises two pillars bridged by an horizontal tube containing the ray-tube. As shown in Fig. 1, the earthed pillar b, which may be rotatable about a vertical axis, has a conductive cover c, and encloses the H.T. transformer a, which is connected by a conductor h to a ray-tube d mounted in the end of an insulating tube f which may be telescopic, and is enclosed in a conducting carrier e which is mounted on the flat side of the pillar b as by rollers g so as to be displaceable vertically, and is conductively connected to the pillar. The tube f may also enclose the valve tube m and the core q of the heating transformer, and may serve to insulate from each other the windings k of this transformer. The core q may form part of the H.T. conductor to the tube. The ray-tube and a diaphragm tube n may be rotated through a complete circle about the axis of the ray-tube, and in any position so reached the diaphragm tube may be swung towards or away from the pillar b. A fluorescent screen or dark slide may be pivotally attached to an arm swingingly mounted on the carrier e. In a modification, the ray-tube is mounted between two symmetrical supports constructed as shown in Fig. 1, the part of the carrier e which encloses the ray-tube being common to both supports; in this form each of the two pillars contains a transformer supplying half the working voltage of the tube. In another modification, in order that the ray-tube carrier e may be depressed right to the base of the pillar b, the transformer a is housed in a lateral extension of the pillar at its base, and the valve tube m may also be housed in this extension. The H.T. conductor h may be a flexible conductor automatically held taut in any setting of the carrier e; or may comprise a fixed vertical rail with which the conductor in the tube f makes sliding contact.
