Igniters combined with cigarette-delivery apparatus; lighting cigars and the like by electric devices. - A coin-freed machine for delivering cigarettes in a lighted condition comprises a casing 11, Fig. 1, containing an electric motor 18 which is started by the insertion of a coin and actuates a roller 68, Fig. 3, for delivering cigarettes from a magazine 13, and also a suction pump 39 which draws air through a cigarette in contact with a heating element 33 before the cigarette is delivered. A coin inserted through a slot 14 moves a pivoted lever 19, Fig. 1, provided with oppositely extending projections 20 which are struck alternately by successive coins. The lever 19 moves a contact arm 21 to engage alternately fixed contacts 23. The arm 21 closes a circuit from a line 24 through a terminal 25, Fig. 6, a four-point contact control switch 27 connected to two terminals 28, 32, through one of the terminals 28, 32 according to the position of the arm 21, then through terminals 29, 30 to the line conductor 31. Arranged in parallel in the circuit is the motor 18, the heating element 33 and a lamp 34 which may illuminate advertisements. The motor 18 drives a shaft which through worm gearing rotates a heart-shaped cam to raise a hollow rod 47 against the action of a surrounding spring 84. The rod 47 through a slotted link 52 rocks a ratchet disc 83 to rotate intermittently a gear wheel 80 which through gears 78, 79 drives in the same direction the delivery roller 68 and a roller 71 which assists in pressing cigarettes into grooves 69 in the roller 68. The roller 68 is moved through one tooth for each coin and is positioned at each actuation by a roller 70 engaging the grooves 69. At each actuation a cigarette is lit at the position 61, then the roller 68 is rotated to deliver the ignited cigarette to an incline 76, and carry the next cigarette from the position 75 to the igniting position. The control switch 27 is actuated to break the circuit at each revolution of a wheel 86. When the rod 47 is raised, before the delivery roller is actuated, a trip 54, Fig. 7, engages and moves against the action of a spring 85, a lever 55 pivoted at 56 and having a pin 57 engaging a suction nozzle 58 which is connected to the pump 39 through a flexible hose 62 and filter 63. The nozzle is thereby moved to engage one end of the cigarette 61 and press its other end against the heating element 33. The trip. 54 is screwed and is adjustable to give varying strokes to the lever 55 according to the different lengths of cigarettes.
