Abstract
336,460. Favre, P. A. Nov. 14, 1928, [Convention date]. Drawing; forming tubes and rods.-Relates to to a method of making tubes or rods of glass, or similar fusible, material, and consists in distributing the molten material around a stationary former by means of a movable, receptacle, and in drawing a tube or rod of the material from the lower end of the former. The molten glass flows from a tank 83, Fig. 1, into an annular trough 84 which is rotated continuously about its vertical axis. The former 7 consists of an enlargement at the lower end of a tube 5, and the glass flows on to the upper part of the enlargement from an opening 86 in the trough 84. The glass is distributed over the surface of the former and flows down to the lower end whence it is drawn away as a tube. In another construction, shown in Fig. 3, the former consists of a funnel-shaped member 82 and the glass is distributed over, and flows down, its inner surface. In another construction, both types of former are used together, the glass flowing off the conical member 7 on to the inner surface of the funnel 82.
