Abstract

336,343. Philadelphia Ice Cream Cone Machinery Co., (Assignees of Berzon, L.). June 27, 1929, [Convention date]. Moving-chamber apparatus. - Relates to means for supplying batter to the moulds of a machine for making wafer biscuits &c. As shown, a row of nozzles 32 is associated with a set of measuring plungers 42 carried on the shaft 40, and one row of nozzles is provided for each row of moulds. The bottom of the batter hopper 22 is closed by a casting 24 and a bushing 26 is housed therein for each row of nozzles. A cylinder 28 is reciprocable within the bush 26 and the plungers 42 are reciprocable within the cylinder 28 and work within compartments formed by partitions 36. Plates 50, 54 limit the movement of the cylinder 28. The lever 61 is connected by a link 65 to the bracket 69, and is pivoted to a member 60 which is slidable on a member 58 extending forwardly from the plate 54. The members 58, 60 are temporarily connected by spring-pressed pawls 63, 72 which are disengaged at the appropriate times by cam strips 68, 78; so that the cylinder 28 and plungers 42 either move together bodily, or the cylinder 28 is arrested and the plunger movement continues. Thus, on the movement of the lever 61 to the left, Fig. 2, the plungers 42 and the cylinder 28 move bodily to the right until the ports 30, 44 and 48, 32 are in alignment. The cylinder 28 is then stopped and the plungers 42 still travel to the right, thereby sucking in batter through the ports 30, 44 and expelling air through the ports 48, 32. On moving the lever 61 back towards the right, the plungers 42 and the cylinder 28 move bodily to the left until the port 46 registers with the nozzle port 32 and the air port 48 is positioned to vent through the ports 34. The cylinder is then checked and the plungers 42 continue their travel and eject the batter into the moulds. Adjustment of the quantity delivered is effected by the milled nut 86 which adjusts the stop 80 on the slide 60 which contacts earlier or later with the face 82 of the cam 78 and thus adjusts the plunger stroke. The device is mounted pivotally on an arm carrying a positioning stop, so that it can be swung into and out of the charging position.
