Staclcing p a c k e t s.- Match boxes, upon discharge from a filling machine, are arranged in rows with the heads of alternate rows pointing in opposite directions, so that subsequent operations such as packing or coating may be facilitated. The boxes are fed in a continuous row into the path of a plunger 2, Fig. 3, which pushes a predetermined number off the feed channel 1 on to a turntable 3, then in the position shown in broken lines. The turntable is pivoted on levers 4 which are actuated by a cam 7 to move in a clockwise direction about their centres 6, during which motion the engagement of a pinion 9 on the turntable with a fixed rack 10 causes the turntable to rotate in the opposite direction and to allow the boxes to fall on to a table 11, along which they are pushed by a plunger 12. While the turntable is remote from the plunger 2, another row of boxes is pushed directly down a slope 20 without having been turned, and is fed into proximity with the previous row by the plunger 12. In this way a succession of oppositely arranged boxes is fed along the table 11 for subsequent operations. In a modified form, the turntable may be pivoted to a fixed part of the machine, and the rack arranged on the lever 4. In the form shown in Fig. 8, rows of boxes are successively pushed into and through a cylinder 21 having a diametrically disposed receiving pocket 22. The cylinder is arranged to rotate through half a revolution for each alternate row of boxes. The boxes after leaving the cylinder, slide down a slope 23 on to a table 11. The cylinder may be arranged to rotate through a right angle alternately in opposite directions, the boxes being positively disengaged in a vertical direction by a plunger. In the form shown in Fig. 10, three receiving plates 15 are arranged at 120‹ from each other. The shaft 14 is rotated through 60‹ after the feed of each row of boxes by the plunger 2, so that alternate rows are turned by the plates 15 and slide down the slope 18 respectively.
