Abstract

336,122. Svenska Ackumulator Aktiebolaget Jungner. Oct. 30, 1928, [Convention date]. Rotary disc valves. - Edge filters are constructed so that they serve also as valves. Sheet metal elements for building up edge filters are so shaped and arranged that parts of their contours project outwardly beyond the corresponding parts of adjacent elements, so that straining passages are formed partly between the side faces of two projecting. parts, partly between the inner and outer contours respectively of projecting and non-projecting parts, and partly between the side faces of parts which do not project. One form of element is shown in Fig. S. The elements are piled on a central spindle so that the projecting parts 14 of one element correspond to the parts 15 of the adjacent element which do not project. The arrangement of two adjacent elements is indicated in Fig. 5. Filtration may take place inwardly first between two neighbouring portions 14, then through passages 17 between inner and outer contours, and finally between neighbouring parts 15 into the central channels. Filtration may, however, be in the reverse direction. Fig. 7 shows a filter having a casing 1 preferably of glass and a metal cover 2 with an inlet passage 3 and an outlet passage 4. The elements are supported on a plate 27 fixed to a central stud 9 which extends through the cover and has a turning-handle 26. A pin 20 secured to the cover 2 engages recesses 19, Fig. 5, in alternate elements, and a pin 21 secured to the plate 27 engages recesses 19<1> in the remaining elements. The latter can thus be turned with the stud 9 to bring all the elements into a uniform position, the operation serving to remove obstructing matter and to shut off flow so that the arrangement acts as a valve. In another form of filter, Fig. 8, the stud 9 is screwed into the cover, is threaded for the greater part of its length, and. flattened on opposing sides. The parts are held together by a sleeve nut 36 extending through the bottom of the casing. Alternate elements of the pile have central apertures corresponding in shape to the cross-section of the stud 9, the others have circular central apertures and are connected to top and bottom plates 28, 29 by longitudinal pins. Recesses in the outer edges of the plates 28, 29 engage projections on the inside of the casing. The cleaning of the filter is effected by slightly loosening the nut 36 and turning the casing, so that the plates 28, 29 and the disc elements connected thereto are turned with it, the alternate elements being incapable of rotation about the stud 9. The disc elements may take numerous forms. Fig. 13 shows two consecutive elements having a spiral contour in relative position for filtering, and Fig. 14 two of rectangular form. In one form, the alternate elements have apertures to receive connecting pins which prevent rotation of these elements. In another, the elements have external projections which themselves engage stops.
