Transfer mechanism,-Keys control the setting of mechanism movable from row to row to set a battery of punches for perforating record cards, and simultaneously to set mechanism giving a visual indication of the punches set; the keys may also operate a printing device and an adding device which accumulates the items recorded by the punches. Keys 91 actuate rods 92, e.g. wires enclosed in flexible tubes 93, to operate levers 65 and punchsetting pins 71 which are caused to actuate each row of setting bars 78 in turn, as the travelling frame 74 on which the lever is pivoted is given a step-by-step motion: The bars 78 are slidable in a fixed frame, and notched to form cam latches for shifting and being held by a latch plate. Any bar thus held down engages a corresponding punch 85, and causes this punch to perforate a card held between reciprocable plates 86, 88. The operation of a key and consequent movement of a rod 92 also actuates a second lever 62, a finger 61 on which lifts a corresponding stop causing a rack number bar 16 to be lifted from engagement with a zero stop and shifted by a spring 21 to a position in accordance with the stop raised. The bar sets a type wheel 13 for printing on a web 11 of paper, and at the same time brings the corresponding number on a block 17 into line with a sight slot. The bar 16 is returned by a bell-crank frame 25 having a periodic motion. The amounts set up and printed by the rack 16 are accumulated by a rack 30 having a pin and slot connection with the rack 16, the racks moving together to make the accumulation and moving relatively to carry over from one wheel to the next. The rack 30 is under tension of a spring 23 and is capable of being held against this tension by a carry pin 40 on a pivoted member 41 having a pawl actuated by a cam 43 of the accumulator wheel of next lower order. The wheel is held against undesired rotation by a detent 47 on a rock arm 48, and its shaft is rocked periodically to bring the pinion in and out of mesh with the rack 30 as required for entering an item. The pawl member 41 is temporarily locked in carry position by a lever 53 snapped under a fixed latch bar 56 by a spring 55 when the pawl is shifted by its cam.
