Abstract
335,883. Robinson, J. May 28, 1929. Couplings, automatic. - A train-pipe coupling D, Fig. 3, capable of limited universal movement is mounted upon a bracket A depending from the usual car coupler and is held in contact with the coupling on the adjacent car by a spring 17. The coupling D is carried by a member E comprising spaced straps 12 arranged on opposite sides of the bracket A and connected at their rear ends by an integral flange 13 which is provided with an opening 13a into which a rearwardly curved portion 10<a> of the bracket is arranged to project. A tie rod 14 having an elongated slot 15 engages the curved seat 10<b> formed by the said portion 10<a> and extends rearwardly through the opening 13<a> to receive the spring 17. The spring 17 is disposed between an abutment 16'on the tie rod and the flange 13 and presses the latter against lugs 11 on the bracket A when the pipe coupling is free. Fig. 6 shows the disposition of parts when the coupling is mated with another coupling, being free to swing through about 180‹.
