Abstract
335,767. Dorr Go. Nov. 9, 1928, [Convention date]. Strainers comprising grids or gratings. -In apparatus of the type in which a rake or scraper is moved along a strainer in one direction to remove accumulated material therefrom and is returned at a distance, from the straining surface, the scraper is mounted on a jointed frame supported on an axis and is actuated by driving means moving a joint on the frame in a closed path similar to the path of the scraper. A rake 12 for cleaning a strainer 11 is carried by arms 15 which form one side of a parallelogram frame, the other sides of which are formed respectively by arms 13 pivoted on a fixed axis 26, arms 14 similarly pivoted, and beams 32 connecting the arms 14, 15. A shaft 16, which has bearings in the beams 32, is provided at its ends with guide rollers, which engage oval guide races rigidly supported on bases 51, and with pinions 17 which mesh with racks 18. The guide races and racks are similar in shape to the path A which the rake should take and are a.t the same inclination. The rake is therefore caused to move as required by rotation of the shaft 16. This shaft is turned by belt and worm gearing from an electric motor carried by the beams 32. An overload on the rake, due to obstruction, increases the end thrust on the worm shaft which is caused to move laterally against a spring and this motion operates switches which cut off the current from the motor and give an alarm respectively. The rake is cleared by a scraper 21 carried by pivoted arms 30, the matter removed falling on to an apron 20, carried on a pivoted frame, and being directed therefrom to a drainage platform 27 or suitable conveying apparatus. The apron 20 is pushed up by the rake but is caused by a counterweight 29 to fall back underneath it to receive the matter pushed by the scraper 21 off the teeth of the rake.
