Abstract
335,711. Pollok, J. C., and McErlane, D. A. Sept. 4, 1929. Dough diving and working machines; rolling- machines; feeding.-A dough divider and baller has a rotary male coned member 1 carrying one or more pockets 2 and an outer conical structure 3 mating with the member 1 and unitary with a hopper 4. The side wall of the hopper 4 is inclined and concaved so that it converges towards the rotating surface and thus provides a cutting-off edge. The pocket 2 has a base formed by the piston 8 moving on an adjustable non-rotary cam 10. The size of the balls of dough is varied by adjusting the height of the cam 10 by the spindle and worm gear 11, 12. As the cone rotates a mass of dough is packed into the pocket 2 by gravity and pressure while the piston 8 is at its lowest point. By the time the pocket 2 comes opposite the lower end of the spiral shell 5 the piston 8 is forced up by the cam 10 and the dough ejected into the shell 5. As the cone rotates the dough travels up the spiral being rolled into a ball and the formed balls fall from the top down a shoot (not shown). The stationary conical member 3 is supported by adjustable pillars 14 and also provides bearings 15 for the rotating cone and bearings 16 for the driving device. A rack 17 is fulcrumed to the structure near the hopper for clearing out the pockets 2 by acting on the piston 8.
