Abstract

334,489. Hahn, H., Hahn, O., and Tessky, K., (trading as Index Werke Hahn & Kolb). March 1, 1929, [Convention date]- Lathes.-A tool 25 is mounted on an axially reciprocating carriage 24 which in turn is mounted on a carriage 26 movable to and from the work 2. Axial traverse is effected from a guiding mandrel 10, engaged by a half nut 11, through a collar 21 and forked lever 23, the half nut being carried on an arm which, together with the collar 21, is attached to a longitudinally slidable sleeve 14 on a shaft 16. At the end of a cut a lever 18 engages a cam 20 which raises it, and rotates sleeve 14 thereby releasing the half nut 11 from engagement with the mandrel 10 and allowing the tool to return to commence another cut under the action of a spring 37, the tool being simultaneously withdrawn perpendicular to the axis of the work by gear segments 27, 28 and a wedge 31 engaging a peg 32 on the carriage 26. A lever 17 and cam 19 feed the tool in to the cutting position after this longitudinal movement has taken place. To effect a rapid and positive engagement of the lever 18 with the cam 20, the latter may be slidably mounted on its shaft and be adapted to be forced into engagement with the lever by a pivoted lever 40 just before the normal engagement would take place. The machine may be adapted for cutting female threads. Rotation of a cam 7 rocks a lever 8 connected to a clutch 9 to stop the machine.
