Abstract

334,285. Paine, N. E., and Bethell, W. E. June 4, 1929. Making lamps.-In the construction of glass envelopes for lamps or the like in which the exhaust tube is housed within the foot tube, the exhaust tube is sealed to the latter and the necessary communicating passage for exhausting the bulb is formed therein prior to the formation of the customary pinch. A closed exhaust tube 12 is formed with a protuberance 21 which is heated to contact with a foot tube 10. The tube 12 may be extended so as to be sealed into the pinch. In a modification, a plain exhaust tube may be assembled within the foot tube and the latter heated to form the necessary passage.
