Ends; bottoms.-A reinforcing ring e of steel or other hard metal is fitted between the binder ring d and the lower portion of a buffer-bottom sliver can, the ring being inwardly shouldered at e<1> to lie between the lower end of the can wall and the inwardly shouldered part d<2> of the binder ring, and bent downwardly at e<2> to lie against the spacing portion d<3> of the binder. The lower end of the reinforcing ring is either bent outwardly as shown at e<3> to lie between the part d' of the binder ring and the bearing plate d<1>, or is bent inwardly and secured to the upper surface of the latter.
