Locking nuts.-In a roller bearing for shafts with a split sleeve secured to the shaft by end rings which are split radially in one or more places, and screws inserted in holes drilled across the planes of cleavage, one end of each hole is made non-circular to take a washer formed to lock the screw. In the construction shown in Figs. 2, 8, a hole is bored out at 3 to form a D-shaped washer 5. The washer is slit at 8 and one end is turned up to form a tooth 9 engaging one of a number of teeth 10 formed on the lower side of the head 6 of the screw 7. In another form, Fig. 6, the head 6 of the screw 7 has grooves 15 into which a tang 1& of the washer 5 may be pressed. In alternative construction teeth op the washer co-operate with teeth on the screw; a tongue on the washer is bent up to engage a flat on the screw head, or an upstanding flange standing around a portion of the periphery of the washer be depressed so as to engage with a longitudinal groove on the head of the screw.
