331,918. British United Shoe Machinery Co., Ltd., and Hope, E. April 12, 1929. Addition to 317,877. Wheels, - An abrading, polishing, &c. roll for scouring parts of boots and shoes consists of a soft rubber or other disc 1 which is mounted on a spindle 6 by means of an internally coned collar 4, abutting against a shoulder 5 on the spindle, and a washer 3 and nut 2, whereby also the disc is forced to assume a conical shape. An abrasive band 8 is held on the periphery of the disc by expansion of the disc due to centrifugal force, and the edge of the disc and the band 8 are curved laterally, the radius of lateral curvature of the band being smaller than that of the edge of the disc; the width of the band may be less than the thickness of the disc. The band may be of such a diameter that the disc does not quite flatten out, the depression in the disc being of such a depth that the nut 2 and the end of the spindle 6 do not project beyond the plane of the outer edge of the disc.
