Leno and like motions. - In a machine of the type described in Specification 13668/03 for making woven wire fabrics consisting of stay wires and pairs of warps twisted together, the twist limiting edges are formed on members which are connected to the rotary shed forming twisting jaws, through which the warps are fed, so as to be stationary in the longitudinal direction and so constructed as to clear the space for introduction of the stays between the edges and the jaws. A smaller twisting member and hence a closer mesh is thus obtained. The twisting jaws 6 which may be in one piece or in detachable sections 8. 9 and are mounted on hollow shafts 1 rotated by helical gears 4, 4<1> arranged in staggered fashion to mesh with gears on shafts 40, are provided with grooved rollers 10, 11 to guide the warp wires 26, which are drawn through the hollow shafts. The rollers may be mounted on fixed axles or may be integral therewith. The twist limiting edges 24, which may be straight or curved in the horizontal or vertical planes, are formed on members secured to the twisters. In one form the members may consist of pairs of spring blades 23 secured by lateral extensions 30 to the twisters, or may each consist of a spring blade formed on a disc 32 secured by screws 33 to the jaw, or a pivoted blade. The straight or corrugated warp wire after insertion in the shed may thus be drawn by forked bars through the members into the corner of the shed. If a wire of diameter less than the space between the edges is used, the limiting edges may be formed on rigid members. The warp wires are guided by wedge-shaped spacing blocks 16 and during the twisting operation the edges 24 are pressed together by the wires lying on the blades and thus limit the twisting. In order that the twisting of the wires between the rear end of the hollow shaft and the tensioning cylinder may not interfere with the feed of the warps, a twisting or shed forming head 7, similar to the head 6 is mounted at the rear end of the shaft so that, at the, termination of twisting, the corner of the rear shed will still be such a distance from the rollers 11<1> as to allow 'feed of the warps. A dividing plate 19 is inserted in grooves 41 in the shaft of such width that it may yield to allow the passage of the wire if knotted.
