Animal traps. - A trap has a passage having entrance 2, 3, Fig. 2, at its ends, and vertical spindles 7, 8 arranged at one side of the passage; said spindles carry horizontal parallel rods 9, 10 and are adapted to be rotated, in opposite directions by means of either a spring 23 or a weight 78 through the agency of bevel pinions 13, 14, 18, 19 and gearing 21, 22. The animal entering at 2 or 3 and encountering either of the barriers 40, 41 jumps over it and alights on a plate 32, thus releasing the catch 33 and causing the rotation of the spindles 7. 8 and the rods 9, 10. The animal is thus driven, into the compartment 42, and steps on and depresses the plate 47, thus opening the swing self-closing door 49. The door 59 is operated in similar fashion by the animal, which thus enters a detachable cage fastened in position by means 65. Pointed wires 38, 39 prevent withdrawal from the passage, and a bait receptacle 73 is provided.
